In 2005 our school did not meet the state and federal guidelines required for Adequate Yearly Progress. In an effort to give teachers and students more learning time in their already compressed academic day, we designed a stream-lined social studies curriculum which covered all required standards and incorporated targeted weak areas in language arts and reading.
Integrating the three subject areas not only allowed us to teach and reinforce skills mandated by both the local school system and state but also added between forty-five minutes and an hour of academic instruction to each school day.
